SHE Picks: Hana Tajima X UNIQLO

One of the more exciting arrivals to Canada in 2016 was the launch of two Uniqlo stores in Toronto. The Japanese brand is known for its simple but effective LifeWear, the concept that you should always have a capsule collection of wardrobe essentials that will see you through trends. They make staples, not trend-based clothing, fusing beautiful fabrics with a classic and clean design aesthetic that will have you reach for the same shirt year after year.

UK-based modest fashion designer and blogger, Hana Tajima was in town last month to introduce her fourth outing with Uniqlo, launching in stores today.

HanaTajima X UNIQLO was first launched in Southeast Asia in 2015, and the ensuing success of the line prompted more collections, paired with a North American release this year. Contrary to a common perception that the collection would only be for Muslim and hijab wearing women, a quick look at the collection shows the versatility of each piece.

With airy, flowing silhouettes, and a colour palette that comprises earthy tones and fun prints, the collection is one that will see you through many spring and summer seasons.

While hijabs and underscarves, using Uniqlo’s Airism technology are a part of the line, they are a small component of what the collection has. Wide-legged and tapered pants, maxi length flowing skirts, blouses and kebayas that double as lightweight outerwear come in an array of neutrals and fun colors, perfect from spring.

We’ll have more details about the designer and her collaboration with UNIQLO in our April/May 2017.
