New in Beauty: Mermaids and Unicorns

2059
If you've ever dreamt of your make up collection looking like the inside of a unicorn, you're in luck: Katy Perry and Lisa Frank have each announced plans to release makeup collections sometime during 2017.

For Katy, makeup collaborations are familiar territory. She's been the face of Covergirl for years and has helmed the Katy Kat line, which includes best-selling products like the Katy Kat Matte Lipsticks and Katy Kat Eye Mascaras. The brand's latest announcement reveals plans to take their partnership with the pop songstress one step further: enter, Katy Kat Pearl.

"In the next evolution of my Katy Kat line with CoverGirl, I was inspired by Spring's upcoming mermaid and pearlescent hues," Katy said in a statement given to POPSUGAR. Fitting, for someone who has been rocking the mermaid aesthetic ever since she "Kissed a Girl and Liked It".

The new collection will include four eyeliners, four lipsticks, and two shadow-highlighter duos, and is set to appear on-line in March and in-stores in April. Till then, stave off your excitement with this sneak peak, courtesy of POPSUGAR:

Lisa Frank takes a different approach with her collection, in that we're not actually sure it will even happen. The 90s Stationary Queen has collaborated with cruelty-free makeup brand Glamour Dolls to create a KickStarter that hopes to raise $30 000 that will go towards launching a six-piece collection. A drawing on their Kickstarter page reveals plans for a lip balm, liquid liner, highlight powder, and a mysterious-but-amazing sounding "unicorn lippie" (amongst other things).

Those who contribute to the Kickstarter are privy to exclusive updates on the line's development, sneak peaks of how the products are made, a chance to vote on their names, and more. The perks seem to be working, considering they've already raised over $100 000 ($70 000 more than their original goal). It just goes to show: in a world of forever-evolving beauty trends, nostalgia trumps all.
