Serena Williams: Motherhood and Tennis

3382

Serena Williams is a 23-time Grand Slam champion, but became a mom for the first time this past year. In a recent interview for Vogue, the mom of one gushed about her daughter, Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr.

“We’re not spending a day apart until she’s eighteen,” Serena says, only half-joking. “Now that I’m 36 and I look at my baby, I remember that this was also one of my goals when I was little before tennis took over when I was still kind of a normal girl who played with dolls. Oh, my God, I loved my dolls.”

She revealed she had to go through various operations after delivering her daughter via C- section. The operations were due to a CT scan revealing she had developed small blood clots in her lungs.  Post delivery and operation, Serena stated that motherhood was challenging.

The 36-year-old aimed to return to the Grand slam in Melbourne Australia but changed her mind stating that although moving to San Francisco and becoming a mom is a very attractive idea at the moment she won't do that just yet

"Maybe this goes without saying, but it needs to be said in a powerful way: I absolutely want more Grand Slams. I’m well aware of the record books, unfortunately. It’s not a secret that I have my sights on 25. At my age, I see the finish line. And when you see the finish line, you don’t slow down. You speed up.”

We know Serena has no plans on letting motherhood hold her back. Here she is enjoying her choreography for N.E.R.D's song 'Lemon' featuring Rihanna at Palm Beach Airport.

Get it, Serena!
