Pakistani recording artist, Atif Aslam, rescued a girl who was being harassed by rowdy attendees at one of his concerts in Karachi. Over the years, the venue location had been hosting fewer and fewer local and international stars, by the time Aslam took to the stage, it was already passed 1am. The atmosphere was electric. The event was supposed to be “family only” as advertised on social media. Unfortunately, that was not the case.
Aslam is seen in a video asking the rowdy crowd member, “Have you never seen a girl before? Your mother or sister could be here as well.”
This is not the first time gender harassment has happened, and it definitely won’t be the last, but Aslam’s response is very brave and respectable. With his level of influence, it is essential that people in positions of power are even more outspoken when it comes to disciplining bad behaviours, so that the message can be witnessed on a large stage, that these types of actions will not be put up with, ignored, or condoned.
