As pride month kicks off this month, Sephora released a campaign providing makeup classes for the transgender community. The aim of the program was to help the LGBTQ community be comfortable in expressing themselves while providing them a safe space. The interactive 90 minute class called, “Bold Beauty for for the Transgender Community,” provided by employees at Sephora included colour correcting techniques, skin care advising, and the application of makeup. So far classes are only being offered across the US and was set to start earlier this month.
Classes are also open to families and friends who wish to take part. According to a press release, the initiative of Sephora aimed at opening more ways of how the LGBTQ community can “have their own personal gender journey” that's free from judgement and exclusion. It also acknowledges the importance of sensitivity with regards to these types of issues that front-line staff should be aware of. Sephora’s Head of Social Impact and Sustainability, Corrie Conrad, said that “at Sephora, we believe beauty is yours to define, and ours to celebrate,” reflecting the high-end makeup store’s support to welcome all types of beauty.
There's no word yet if classes will be offered in Canada (we’re keeping our fingers crossed that there will be) but for now, video tutorials as are set to be uploaded on Sephora's YouTube channel for those who have no access to a store near them.
