Gunman kills 5 in Northern California

2386

After the terrible wildfires that occurred last month, a new incident has threatened the state of California after a gunman went on a shooting rampage in the small rural community of Rancho Tehama Reserve on Tuesday.

The "deranged and paranoid" Kevin Neal shot his wife several times on Monday night and hid her body under the floor in his home. At 7 am the next day, Neal began his 25-minute shooting spree using his illegally-manufactured guns at various locations including the Rancho Tehama Elementary school, injuring 10 and claiming the lives of four other people. He was eventually killed by two police officers near the city of Corning.

The gunman was arrested earlier this year after assaulting two of his female neighbours but was released via bail. A protective order was granted for the two women forcing Neal to give up his firearms.

Neal's sister has claimed that he has struggled with mental health issues in the past, which had gotten worse last year.

Our sincerest thoughts and prayers go out to the families of the victims of this horrific event.
