Indian Filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali in trouble for Padmavati

1738
Filming for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavati has begun with a rocky start. The set in Jaipur had shocking incidents happen to it, and recently more threats were surfacing from the Rajput Karni Sena party against the director. “If Bhansali distorts history and shoots the film in Mumbai, we will go there and destroy his sets like we did in Jaipur,” said Vijendra Singh, a spokesperson for the party. The Rajput community has never opposed any films; except for Padmavati and Jodhaa Akbar because according to them, the two directors wanted to create controversy on purpose. In a scene from one of the movies, the devil meets a Muslim tyrant who had wrecked havoc on Hindus. Singh warned Bhansali about the attack that would happen in Jaipur, but because Bhansali did not listen, they were “forced to attack.” However, Bhansali’s job is to create a story. The fear of having offensive content is always going to be an issue in Bollywood. While directors need to be given a certain amount of artistic freedom, they also need to respect history, and with a country like India, all the groups of people that live within. As a result, Bhansali has now reached an agreement with the Rajut Sabha (which is the umbrella organization that member of Karni Sena belong to). The agreement has three main points as stated on FIRSTPOST.com, they are … “ 1.That no scenes of an intimate nature would be depicted between the characters of Rani Padmavati and Alauddin Khilji. 2. That no historical facts would be distorted. 3. That the Rajput Sabha would be shown the film before it was released in theatres.” It’s not always about the portrayal of a situation, but also the integrity of it. Moving forward, hopefully, everything will be done in a proper manner. Bhansali's cinematic offerings are always grand affairs, with a riot of colour and grandeur against a backdrop on India's rich and vibrant culture. By Rhea Braganza
