Who would have thought that even the most sober form of clothing can grab attention by getting coated with glittery rocks? The Abaya, a traditional form of Islamic dress, gets bejewelled as famous British Designer Debbie Wingham makes use of a rare red diamond worth $7.4 million, alongside black and white diamonds meticulously hand stitched into place with 14-carat white gold thread. Worth an estimated Dhs 65.1 million, ($17,697,187.95), the abaya is being proclaimed as the world’s most valuable and will go on display in Dubai, March 21st 2013, at The Raffles Hotel.
Wingham, whose creations have appeared on Sex and the CityDesperate Housewives and Ugly Betty, has also dressed popular figures such as Kate Winslet, Hilary Swank, and, Dita Von Tesse is presently a judge on Britain’s Next Top Model. Her latest creation has also inspired her to create an entire collection of modern and fashionable abayas, which will be soon available in the Gulf region. From Stuart Weitzman's million-dollar shoe that was introduced 5 years ago, to diamond studded gowns and now abayas, there’s certainly been no looking back. Not only are diamonds forever, but they are also a girl’s best friend, being tailored to a diverse range of women with varied tastes.
