BAFTAs 2014

This past weekend, it was a big night for both films 'Gravity' and '12 Years A Slave' at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts -- and of course, for fashion. The slavery drama picked up two of the big awards at this year's BAFTAs, for best film and best leading actor for Chiwetel Ejiofor's performance. Director, Steve McQueen, accepted the award for best film and told the audience: "There are 21 million people in slavery as we sit here. I just hope 150 years from now our ambivalence will not allow another film-maker to make this film". 'Gravity' led the way for the most wins as the film took home six awards, including best director for the film-maker, Alfonso Cuaron. "You can't tell by my accent, but I consider myself to be a part of the British film industry," he said. While it was an exciting weekend for prominent movies that hit the big screen in the past year, it was also an exciting night in fashion. Many A-listers seemed to opt for gowns of darker colour (minus a select few) for Britain's most prestigious film awards ceremony. lupito-nyongo

Lupita Nyong'o revealed the time it took her to get ready, about three to four hours. It seemed to pay off when the leading lady of '12 Years A Slave' arrived in an emerald green Christian Dior fishtail gown.

Amy Adams, star of 'American Hustle', wore British designer Victoria Beckham in a long, black dress with a prim collar and sheer panel.

Power-couple Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt stunned the red carpet as they arrived in matching tuxedos. Jolie opted for the simplistic tailored tuxedo by Saint Laurent and did not disappoint.

Cate Blanchett went for the understated in a floor-length long, black silk Alexander McQueen gown with floral detail.

Uma Thurman opted for the minimal look while she wore Atelier Versace with simplistic yet elegant jewellery.
