By Roxanne Bildan Just in time for Sofia Coppola’s acclaimed, The Bling Ring, Ingrid Lederhaas-Okun was arrested for stealing $1.3 million worth of jewellery from Tiffany & Co. Who is Ingrid Lederhaas-Okun? One of their own, believe it or not. Mrs. Lederhaas-Okun was the vice-president of product development at the jeweller until being let go late February due to downsizing. Unfortunately, much damage was done up to her departure; she had been stealing and selling jewellery since early November 2012. According to a criminal complaint, 165 items were stolen. Included in the jewellery were “numerous diamond bracelets in 18-carat gold; diamond drop and earrings in platinum or 18-carat gold; diamond rings in platinum; rings with precious stones in 18-carat gold; and platinum and diamond pendants.” Further investigation was conducted and discovered that Lederhaas-Okun had been reselling the goods to an unidentified international dealer in Manhattan for a total of $1.3 million. Accordingly, Lederhaas-Okun remains defensive and claims that she had authority to “check out” the jewellery from Tiffany for a PowerPoint Presentation demonstrated to her boss. Consequently, Lederhaas-Okun revealed that the alleged items could be found in an envelope at her office. No envelope was found, nor was there proof of the PowerPoint presentation. The FBI continues to investigate. If convicted and found guilty, Ingrid Lederhaas-Okun faces up to 30 years in prison. Not a bright future ahead of her.
