Remembering L’Wren Scott: Fashion Designer & Model

L'Wren Scott, a fashion designer, model, and celebrity stylist was found dead in her Manhattan apartment at 10 a.m. on Monday morning. Mick Jagger, Scott's boyfriend, is “completely shocked and devastated by the news,” a spokeswoman for the singer said. Police are investigating an apparent suicide. Scott, a talented designer whose clothes were worn by well known women such as Nicole Kidman, Oprah Winfrey, Amy Adams, Christina Hendricks and Michelle Obama, started making clothes when she was just a young teenager. Born and raised in Utah, Scott had moved to Paris to pursue her career in modelling where she walked for the likes of Chanel and Thierry Mugler. It was in Paris where she discovered a greater love for making clothes rather than wearing them. Following Paris, the model moved to Los Angeles where she worked as a stylist for several renowned photographers. Scott was also privately designing clothes before she released her own collection. As a stylist, she learned what worked best for all body types and launched her first collection in 2006 entitled, Little Black Dress. “I’m not interested in making clothes for twelve-year-olds,” she says. “These are for women.” A year after her launch, Scott designed a capsule collection for CoutureLab and she also designed Ellen Barkin's wardrobe for the Ocean's Thirteen film. In 2009, Scott designed and released her own successful shoe collection. It was June 2010 when Scott joined the CFDA and inked a deal two months later with Lancome for a holiday capsule collection. The collection would focus on her signature colours, bringing bordeaux lipsticks and gray nailpolishes to life. In 2011, the accomplished designer collaborated with Banana Republic where the collection was released this past December with pieces ranging for $40 - $200. In February of 2014, Scott's collection was set to debut at London Fashion Week -- she cancelled the show citing production delays. While it's unknown as to why Scott would want to take her valuable life, one thing is for sure -- this dedicated and inspiring woman will be missed dearly.
