Pakistan Fashion Week London 2012 – Going Global

In recent attempts to build bridges, Pakistan brought a chunk of their fashion industry to London, UK for Pakistan Fashion Week London 2012. The show was held at the end of May in an attempt to strengthen ties between the two nations, while entertaining the guests. David Cameron called it "a cultural roadmap between the UK and Pakistan." Adnan Ansari, creative director and co-founder of organising group Riwayat commented: “It's a significant step for Pakistan Fashion Week to be included in such a cultural roadmap at such an early stage in our history. After launching just last year we hope to make a major contribution to the understanding of the europeans of Pakistan's culture and history.” Having only been on the map for the past sixty-four years, Pakistan is finally starting to spread its wings in the global fashion world. The fashion show showcased some of Pakistan’s highly innovative designers, Maria B, Deepak Perwani, Maheen Khan, Zainab Sajid and Ammar Belal to name a few, and was headlined by the nation's best known supermodel Mehreen Syed.
