By:Bonnie Mendez Mercedes- Benz New York Fashion week kicked off with many designs inspired by “freedom”. More than a 100 shows are planned during this week. Ashley Simpson and Christina Ricci sat front row during the Richard Chai LOVE runway show in which he showed a little bit of edge, but as always neat and trimmed in which women’s metallic pieces shared the runway with men wearing plaid suits and lean overcoats. The day was followed by BCBG Max Azria that was inspired by “architecture of Istanbul and the eclectic style of Gypsies of Southern Europe” according to husband and wife designers Max and Lubov Azria, the new fashion trend is freedom, using plenty of fur, leather and shift dresses. Kenneth Cole returning after 7 years' hiatus impressed everyone with the utilitarian vibe in each piece, saying that customers want clothes that offer functionality. From the beginning of the show Kenneth Cole used social media as part of the show calling it “Urban Liberation”. “These days, it's more important that the audience 'like' something rather than love it,” says Cole. Creatures of the wind focused their inspiration on Memphis Movement an Italian design from the 80’s. With New York fashion week kicking off with major success we look forward to more.
