‘Maleficent’ Inspires A New Children’s Clothing Line

Inspired by her upcoming Disney film, Maleficent, Angelina Jolie has approached renowned fashion designer Stella McCartney to design a children's clothing line. The Disney film, focused on the villain in the 1959 classic Sleeping Beauty, was the trigger that set Jolie to approach McCartney for a collaboration. The collection, named after the movie, will include eight styles. Pieces will include sparkly princess dresses, bow-adorned sandals, dragon-print tees and sneakers for boys and girls aged 4 to 14. Beginning in April, the capsule collection, which will range from $75 to $145, will be available at Stella McCartney Kids stores worldwide, as well as Disney stores and online. A portion of the money raised will be donated to a charity that provides homes for youngsters in need, SOS Children's Villages. Quite fitting for a Jolie project. "I've always been a huge fan of Disney growing up, as was my mother, and I grew up watching all the films like most kids did," McCartney tells WWD. "When the opportunity presented itself and I was invited by Angelina Jolie to visit the film set, I jumped at the chance."  This is not McCartney's first Disney collaboration. She first created her Disney-infused autumn/winter campaign for 2009/10. She then designed a range of costume jewellery for Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderful in 2010.
