Jason Wu Unleashes His New Ready-To-Wear Collection

By: Frances Du 29-year-old Taiwanese-Canadian designer Jason Wu is about to unleash a more contemporary budget-friendly line, Miss Wu, which will be available at major U.S. department store, Nordstrom. After gaining prominence four years ago for dressing First Lady Michelle Obama in a heart-stopping one-shoulder white chiffon gown, Wu has racked up an impressive celebrity clientele with the likes of Diane Kruger, Reese Witherspoon, and Zoe Saldana donning his dresses at red carpet events. While his collaboration with Target earlier in the year offered stylish garments at a reduced cost, Wu insists that this new venture will not only be affordable, but it will also show off a different aspect of his personality which is "slightly more downtown and with a more relaxed attitude." This explains the name of the collection which is derived from Wu's muse, the owl, whose whimsical and playful attitude is reflective of his own design aesthetic. He explains, "I put a lot of effort and thoughtfulness into the construction of every garment, but I want my designs to also have a lighthearted side as well. Fashion should be fun, after all! I feel that the owl represents many creative people that I know (including myself), because we work late hours and many times our best ideas come late at night. So I suppose Miss Wu pays tribute to all the late hours that it takes to realise a collection!" This ready-to-wear collection will branch out into accessories by 2014. Can't wait for owl-inspired accessories! Wuuuuu!
