Your Donations are Needed in Yemen: A Message from Islamic Relief Canada

Yemen is one of the oldest inhabited areas on Earth but also one of the poorest and least developed countries in the Arab world. The country’s economy depends heavily upon its oil supply, but these resources are fast-depleting. Nearly half of Yemen's 24 million people live in “unusually deep and severe” poverty, according to the UN. High illiteracy rates and a lack of education further stifles the Yemeni population from progress toward building better futures for themselves and their children. In 2011, political turmoil turned the dire living conditions of Yemenis to even more desperation. Clashes between civilian protesters calling for governmental change and security forces resulted in hundreds of deaths. The violence left thousands of Yemenis with no place to go and countless were rendered homeless. Yemen is now on the brink of collapse. The humanitarian situation in Yemen has become catastrophic; hundreds are dead and thousands injured and displaced. As one of the poorest countries in the world, Yemen has over 850,000 malnourished children and millions more living in extreme poverty. The current crisis has only exasperated their dire situation. The Prophet (peace be upon him) informed us that "There will come upon you the people of Yemen. They are the most soft-hearted and compassionate. Verily, iman is in Yemen, wisdom is in Yemen and I find the relief from your Lord coming from the direction of Yemen." Your Donations Are Needed To Help Yemenis with the following: A. 10.6 million Yemenis have trouble meeting their food needs B. 13.5 million lack access to safe drinking water C. 8.4 million people lack access to health care You have the power to change lives.
