CFDA VOGUE Fashion Fund Awards 2012

By Summun Jafri Last night the CFDA Vogue Fashion Fund held the annual Fashion Fund Awards in New York City. Celebrities, models, designers, and members of the CFDA gathered to celebrate the winner and runners-up of the prize. This year Greg Chait of The Elder Statesman won the grand prize, which included $300,000. The two runners-ups were Tabitha Simmons and Jennifer Meyer Maguire (wife of actor Toby Maguire), who each received prizes of $100,000. The cash prizes are means of helping the designers pursue and broaden their collections. The winner and runners-up are also granted business mentors to provide expertise in regards to business needs.

The CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund was started 2003 as a way of supporting emerging American talent, and giving the industry a boost of encouragement overall. Of the 133 applicants this year, ten finalists were chosen; only three applicants are granted prizes. Previous companies who have received grants are 3.1 Phillip Lim, Alexander Wang, and Prabal Gurung. With the exposure and opportunities this prize provides, there is no doubt that these recipients will have continued success in the fashion world.
