Emporio Armani F/W 2013: South Asian Inspired?

By: Ekta Mukhi

Mr. Armani presented his Emporio Armani Fall 2013 collection, ‘KAJAL’ at the Milan Fashion Week this past weekend. ‘KAJAL’, referred to a range of pigments from soft creams and pinks to dark shades and mineral hues, fittingly depicted his entire collection.

Without setting an explicit tone, his collection takes us on a journey from the soft pastel colours of silk and satin to the deep hues of velvet, each colour palette mimicking the softness of the fabrics he uses. An absolute feast for the eyes!

The AW’13 collection gave off a 20s, 30s artists vibe bringing back trends of the past eras with the cloche hats, brooches and signature Jaipur style chandelier earrings. Only Armani’s flawless tailoring could make his masculine pantsuits on an Indian style printed fabric that looked like Shalwar Kameezs, and Bermuda shorts with a Patiala edge look so chic. His play with shapes and silhouette, together with the use of clear gem hues, not only brought back sensuality and that feminine touch, but took it to a whole new level, providing that perfect dramatic finish.

Only a truly great artisan can play with colours, cuts and cloths, whilst maintaining that spark of fun to his vintage styled clothing.
