The major event had a dynamic set of awe-inspiring production numbers from today's most in-demand artists. Pink and Kelly Clarkson hyped viewers with their mind-entrenching rendition of "Everybody Hurts" by REM, a major hit of the early 90s, which reflected on the horrific global incidents of the year. Pink also had a daredevil performance as she sang "Beautiful Trauma" on the side of a building. Pop superstar, Selena Gomez exhibited an "I'm alive and doing well" vibe with her "Wolves" performance, which also showcased her seemingly new hair colour. Who can forget about Christina Aguilera's special tribute to the late Whitney Houston to celebrate the 25th anniversary of her hit movie, "The Bodyguard", demonstrating her undying and unparalleled vocal prowess. Other iconic performances came from Demi Lovato with her hit single "Sorry Not Sorry"; Lady Gaga with her colourful performance of "The Cure"; and  Nick Jonas's "Find You".

Drake took home the Favourite Rap/Hip-Hop Artist Award and Beyoncé was hailed as the Favourite Soul/R&B Artist. The Favourite Pop/Rock Female Artist was Lady Gaga and New Artist of the Year award was given to One Direction's Niall Horan. Other special artist recognitions include The Chainsmokers, winning the Favourite EDM Artist award, Shakira with the Favourite Latin Artist award, and Linkin Park being dubbed as the Favourite Alternative Rock Artist. The summer hit song "Despacito" won Collaboration of the Year as well as Favourite Pop/Rock Song, which was expected. And to top the show-off, Diana Ross won the prestigious American Music Lifetime Achievement Award, in which she gave a heartfelt speech and a delightful medley performance of her hit songs in the past decades with her grandbabies!
