In other modest fashion news, Anniesa Hassibuan, a designer hailing from Jakarta, Indonesia, showcased her NYFW collection using models who were all either immigrants and/or second generation Americans. In a statement, she confirmed that her casting choice was a direct response to the Trump administration's recent anti-immigrant policies. "I wanted to celebrate the diversity of the American people and the story of the American dream unfolding on the runway," Hasibuan said.
The Muslim designer first made headlines last September, when she debuted NYFW's first ever all-hijab collection. Her ethos has stayed the same from then till now: "The message for my collection is [to encourage] women to be strong and confident. I hope that Muslim or not, [women] will find beauty in my work."
