The Full Spectrum of Fashion at the Grammys

By Lindsay Cooper Fashion was varied on the red carpet of this year’s Grammy ceremony, with the entire colour spectrum and silhouettes from ball gowns to tailored women’s suits making appearances. We saw nominee and performer Lianne La Havas in a yellow-on-yellow floral gown, Selena Gomez in glittered blue Calvin Klein, songwriter Bonnie McKee in flashy silver with a cotton candy-pink bob, and both Taylor Swift and Kimberly Schlapman of Little Big Town in fuchsia and salmon separates. While it’s still early in the year, we anticipate the fashion appearing at on this red carpet might be the best of the year. A prominent trend was lace detailing, with singer-songwriter Skyler Grey wearing an over the top nude-illusion dress that featured gauzy black figures reminiscent of Versace’s medusa heads. We also saw nominee Tove Lo in a sheer floral lace and Janelle Monae in an elaborately embroidered black and white lace. On the other end of the spectrum, many stars showed up in suits. While these classic ensembles have practically become the dress code for male attendees, we also saw young starlet Zendaya pairing an effortless looking suit with understated makeup  and, perhaps more surprising than her fashion choice, a mullet. Demi Lovato, who performed a Lionel Richie tribute at the show, took the middle ground between the night’s masculine and feminine trends, pairing a suit jacket with a floor sweeping black skirt. While Zendaya’s mullet didn’t mark a trend for the evening’s beauty forecast, Taylor Swifts now signature bob did. Swift, who took home the award for best album of the year, showed up with a cut that was more Anna Wintour than the ‘do we’re accustomed to seeing on the songstress. With Taylor’s bob shorter than ever, Adele also rocked her naturally short locks, which she often hides under a beehive wig to imitate her iconic hair from the era of 21.  Photo Courtesy of AP
