With the weekend upon us, we can’t think of a better time to catch up on our reading. While we’ve read, loved and shared our review for Arundhati Roy’s Ministry of Utmost Happiness in our August/September 2017 issue (sneak peek alert!) we are going to catch up on most of the books that have made the illustrious list of contenders for this year’s biggest literary prize.
Will Arundhati Roy win her second Booker? Will Mohsin Hamid pick one up, this is his second time on the longlist, or will the prize go to another debut novelist; George Saunder’s Lincoln in Bardo has been much praised in literary circles.
Whoever wins, we’re just glad that we have our work cut short for us, 13 books short.
Here is a list of nominees for the 2017 Man Booker Prize:
4 3 2 1 by Paul Auster (US) (Faber & Faber)
Days Without End by Sebastian Barry
History of Wolves by Emily Fridlund
Exit West by Mohsin Hamid
Solar Bones by Mike McCormack
Reservoir 13 by Jon McGregor
Elmet by Fiona Mozley
The Ministry Of Utmost Happiness by Arundhati Roy
Lincoln in the Bardo by George Saunders
Home Fire by Kamila Shamsie
Autumn by Ali Smith
