How To Get Lady Gaga’s Demure Oscar ‘Do

1953
By Lindsay Cooper Lady Gaga was nominated for her first Oscar at Sunday's 88th Annual Academy Awards. The performer, most notable for her out of the box sense of style and her pop anthems, revealed an entirely different side of herself during the ceremony. Nominated Best Original Song for her pop ballad 'Til it Happens to You, which she also performed to a standing ovation, her music and sense of style were both more "Lady" than "Gaga". Walking the red carpet in a understated white number, simple nude-toned makeup, and a flouncy bob, Gaga's hair was the crowning detail to complete the look of timeless glamour. With short, freely falling locks appearing on the heads of Adele, Taylor Swift, and Jennifer Lawrence, Gaga's 50's inspired hairdo is the perfect way to glam-up for everyday or special occasions. To achieve the look, we consulted with the expert, Lady Gaga's hairstylist Frederic Aspiras. The first step is properly prepped hair, meaning it has been washed and protected with products. Aspiras recommends using Pai-Shau Replenishing Hair Cleanser and either Pai-Shau Replenishing Cream Conditioner (for thin to regular hair) or Pai-Shau Hydrating Ritual Supreme Revitalizing Mask (for coarser locks) in the shower. After cleansing, towel dry your mane and add Biphasic Infusion and Royal Abundance Mousse, both by Pai-Shau.

Now you're ready for heat. Blow dry your hair smooth, but still voluminous. To achieve this, Aspiras recommends using a round brush, as it supplies the tension needed to keep the strands frizz-free, but the shape of the brush will give hair shape. Once dry, you're going apply another layer of Pai-Shau's Royal Abundance Mousse, section by section while curling. For an exact replica of Gaga's look, use a one inch curling iron in front sections of the hair and a one and one-quarter inch iron for the remainder of the head. After completing each curl, you will need to pin each curl in place to keep their shape. Once you have a head full of pinned curls, put your head under a dryer hood for five minutes (ideally) or a warm blow drier until all pin curls are warm throughout. You're now ready to remove all the pins from your hair and start shaping the look. The best way to sculpt is using Pai-Shau Style Soufflé and a wide tooth comb to sweep the edges of your hair up and away from the face. Once you have achieved your desired look finish it off with a few dabs of Pai-Shau Biphasic Infusion to add softness and a mist of Pai-Shau Imperial Hold Hairspray to lock it in.
