Rape and death—It`s been a chilling month for Pakistan thus far. A seven-year-old girl named Zainab disappeared on January 4th and was later found dead in a field of waste after friends and family desperately committed in their search for her.
Her parents, who were in Saudi Arabia at the time, were devastated of the news—which they had found out while performing Umrah (holy pilgrimage) and were livid to come to know that the police resisted in resolving her disappearance. Her parents reached Pakistan grounds Wednesday morning.
The autopsy suggested that the little girl was allegedly raped and strangled to death. With the exposure of this incident, justice is in order, as the outcome has sparked angry protestors in their fight for better policing for not just the sake of Zainab, but the several overlooked victims before that. History shows that there has been a consistent pattern of kidnappings resulting in murders, with the innocent being no older than fourteen years of age. According to the provincial government spokesman, Malik Ahmed Ali, the reported cases share resemblances—instigating the idea of a potential serial killer.
The hashtag #JusticeForZainab took over the city, with the refusal of protestors allowing their voices to be silenced, as was the concerned voice of Zainab`s family with this evolution. Ameen Asari, the father of the seven-year-old, claimed that the police had no care to solve the murder, according to Al Jazeera.
"My relatives and neighbours told me that the police used to come, have food and leave," Ansari told local media. "While they didn't do anything, my friends and family spent day and night looking for my daughter." "In Pakistan, security is only for leaders and we are just common insects," he concluded.
Twenty-four hours after Zainab`s disappearance is when Pakistani authorities submitted a `missing person` report. However, based on the increase of events, a lot can happen in twenty-four hours.
Kasur was overwhelmed with rioters that police somehow justified to bring down. Rather than creating peace and being passionate about forming a new wave of positive change regarding safety, there was a result of two deaths and several injuries, according to Al Jazeera.
