Paris Fashion Week brought the cream of the crop to the runway this year. Alexander McQueen, Christian Dior, Givenchy, Balmain, and St. Laurent delivered with their designs. L'Oreal Paris also had a beauty and fashion catwalk for the first time, which featured actresses Helen Mirren and Jane Fonda as models. The show was specifically recognized for its diversity and featured designers such as Off-White, Mulberry, and Balmain. Mirren accessorized her outfit with patent leather shoes and a cane, while Fonda rocked a sexy tiger-print dress.
Sarah Burton's collection for Alexander McQueen was inspired by British gardens combined with true McQueen style. Floral embroidery, two-toned rocker boots, and ruffles were combined with tartan quilts that paid homage to the original designer's Scottish heritage. The most talked about piece of the night featured a curvy model wearing a glass synthetic organza pleated dress with a punk edge. Several pieces also had couture dresses and raincoats that were deconstructed and made into new designs.
Balmain wowed the audience with a patent leather jumpsuit and the classic body-con dress was transformed with the addition of gigantic ruffles. As usual, Balmain was all about the details, showcasing studs, sequins, mesh patterns, and feathers. Most of the collection was black and white with pops of colour throughout. Balmain's next project is designing looks for the upcoming Victoria Secret fashion show, which everyone is just dying to see!
Overall, PFW was a great close to all of the fashion shows that were seen over the past month. The trends in women's fashion for Spring/Summer 2018 are definitely going to be bold with prints, pops of colour, florals, and patent leather that are mostly surrounded by looks for street wear. Congratulations to all of the designers and crew for their beautiful and innovative work!
