Leave it to Karl Lagerfeld to make such a bold statement with this year’s destination choice for Resort 2017 Chanel Show. Lagerfeld hosted his first-ever fashion show in Cuba yesterday. Lagerfeld told Reuters the show was a homage to the “cultural richness and opening up of Cuba.”
Right from the start the show emulated a resort-style show with the guests being treated to hot spots around Havana before the show and later chauffeured to the show in bright coloured old convertibles.
The show took place in an open-air street show in Havana’s Paseo de Prado, the dividing line between Old and New Havana. Guests sat on park benches as models strolled by styling dresses with vintage cars printed on them, denim jackets with Chanel pins and t-shirts reading “Viva Coco Libre”.
The models included Stella Tennant, Mariacarla Boscono, Kendall Jenner, Mica Arganaraz, Lindsey Wixson, and Soo Joo Park.
The entire event carried a sense of locality and welcoming atmosphere initiated through the excitement from the people of Cuba. A theme that stayed true even in the way the show ended with the audience, locals and models dancing and enjoying in a carnival style.
