‘Wonder Woman’ women-only screening sells out and causes an uproar

2365
The famous Alamo Drafthouse cinema in Austin, Texas announced that they will be hosting 5 women-only screenings of the newly anticipated Wonder Woman. The film is definitely seen as a feminist icon, however male moviegoers are unhappy with the idea of women only screenings. The announcement has led to a lot of controversy and received criticism as well as praise from different corners online.

The film is based on a DC comics character that we're well familiar with. Gal Gadot is playing the title role. The film is set to release on Thursday June 1st. On Wednesday last week, the Theatre sent out the following announcement; “Apologies, gentlemen, but we’re embracing our girl power and saying ‘No Guys Allowed,’” the announcement read. “And when we say ‘People Who Identify as Women Only,’ we mean it.” The theatre also pledged that every staff member working at the screening would be female. The screening is to be held on June 6th, with proceeds going to planned parenthood.

Male fans of Wonder Woman were quite offended with the announcement and the idea behind the screening. Many took to social media to share their opinions about the matter.

However, their was also a positive and supportive response from many men and women all over the web that felt it was not something to make a big deal out of.

What do you think? is the idea of gender specific screenings sexist or just a fun idea?
