This past weekend, the Canadian Arts and Fashion Awards (CAFA) were held at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel. The Canadian Arts and Fashion Awards encourage the economic development of the Canadian fashion industry’s emerging entrepreneurs, and celebrate homegrown designers. Known as the first event of its kind in Canada, the CAFAs featured 10 award categories recognizing homegrown talent within the fashion industry:

The Womenswear Designer of the Year Award

The Menswear Designer of the Year Award

The Emerging Talent Award

The Outstanding Achievement Award 

The Accessory Designer of the Year Award

The Canadian Style Award

The Image Maker Award

The International Canadian Designer of the Year Award

The Stylist of the Year Award

The Model of the Year Award

Twin designers Dean and Dan Caten earned a double victory at the CAFAs. The Toronto-born brothers behind the Milan-based label DSquared2 were recognized with an award for outstanding achievement. The Catens also received the CAFA for International Canadian Designer of the Year. Toronto’s Jeremy Laing was named Womenswear Designer of the Year, while Calgary's Travis Taddeo, who is now based in Montreal, received the Menswear Designer of the Year award. Toronto-born, Richmond, B.C.-raised Coco Rocha was awarded the CAFA for model of the year. Rocha accepted this award in a one-shouldered white gown, made by designers Dsquared2. A special tribute was also made to Jeanne Beker, who was given the first ever Vanguard award, honouring the long-time Canadian journalist and fashion icon.
