Selena Gomez Opens Up About Kidney Transplant in an Emotional Interview

The lupus-stricken pop superstar unveils details on her kidney transplant over the summer in which she secretly underwent with her good friend and former roommate, Francia Raisa.

Last month, Gomez shared to her Instagram followers a heartwarming "thank you" post for Raisa's kidney donation and explained why she was low-key for the past months despite the release of her new music.

The 25-year-old recalls on the TODAY show that the transplant was a 50/50 situation and that she would have died if had it not been for Raisa's voluntary donation. She explains that it was "difficult" to find someone who could get tested and let alone, a match. Gomez further states that had to go back to surgery two hours after the first one as the doctors revealed that her new kidney "flipped".

Gomez claims that her "energy and life has been better" after the surgery and that there is a "3-5% chance" that her condition will come back. She says that her arthritis disappeared and her blood pressure went back to normal. Both Gomez and Raisa couldn't do much during the recovery process and that they were "unable to shower" and could only "walk an hour a day".
