Justin Trudeau Receives Criticism while in India to Retire that Attire!

With a positive always comes a negative, doesn’t it? That’s just how the world of fame and glory works. Apparently, Justin Trudeau and his family dressed their steps in India ‘too Indian’.

Trudeau initially payed India a week-long trip in hopes to focus on economic progress and job creation; resulting in the development of 5,800 new jobs and numerous agreements compounding up to $1 billion, according to the Globe and Mail. That, my friends, was the main focus of his trip. The attention was shifted away from that though, of course, because what’s more important than fashion?—That was sarcasm if you didn’t guess that yet.

The outfits that have received backlash were, according to Global News, designed by India’s greatest designers. Their outfits were cultural to the tee. His wife wore a beaded sari, his children wore a sherwani and lehenga, and he wore a gold sherwani completed with mojari shoes. Throughout their visit there were many outfit changes for particular events.

Several critics took it to Twitter to speak their mind on such Indian attire. One of them being @OmarAbdullah who tweeted “is it just me or is this choreographed cuteness all just a bit much now? Also FYI we Indians don’t dress like this every day sir, not even in Bollywood.”

Yes, while many believed their clothing was in fact excessive, there were others that were quick to pour water on those flames. @priyaalovee tweeted “I don’t understand why people are dragging Justin Trudeau for wearing desi clothing while visiting India? His intention was to pay respect? There’s a difference between culture appreciation and culture appropriation.”

Was it maybe a little too much? Yes. Did it deserve that much negative press? Doubtful. Let’s keep the focal point in check people.

Trudeau went to India for business, not fashion advice, after all.
