Halima Aden Walks In Milan Fashion Week

2747
It was only a few days ago that SHE covered Muslim-American model Halima Aden's rapid accession to success. Now, it looks like she's back again, though this time making headlines in Milan.

Aden, the first hijab-wearing model to me signed to IGM, made her debut at Milan Fashion Week, walking Alberta Feratti show on Wednesday night and Max Mara's the following day. For each show, she proudly donned a headscarf that matched the respective ensembles. Also featured on the runways were sister supermodels Gigi and Bella Hadid, who, according to Halima, offered nothing but kind words of encouragement.

Although Halima first made her runway debut at the Yeezy Season 5 during NYFW a week prior, her appearance in the Milan shows seems arguably more significant. It serves as proof that prestigious, well-established fashion labels are embracing (or at least, beginning to embrace) diverse representations of beauty. Let's hope that Halima's success heretofore is a harbinger of more progressive changes to come.
