Designer Insight for Spring/Summer 2014 By Jennifer Naraine There are a couple of upcoming collections we are eager to see. But have you ever wondered what the designer's inspiration was to begin with? On this rainy Friday, SHE gives you an insider's look into three of today's hottest designers: Tory Burch, Erdem and Michael Kors. Erdem: Erdem's inspiration for Spring/Summer 2014 is based on the feeling of escapism. Inspired by old photographs of his mother as a girl on holiday in Black Pool in the UK, Erdem focused on the separation between blacks and white, dainty day dresses and elegant columns, and of course jewels and graphics. Erdem SS14 is about the fantasy and excitement of being somewhere new honing in on a feeling vacating one's life. Tory Burch: Tory Burch's inspiration for this Spring/Summer 2014 is "Have Culture, Will Travel." Manet and Morocco were strict principles for this collection. A trip to North Africa was the trip that triggered this, as Burch collected samples from the region to then intertwine them into her collection for 2014. Moroccan embellishments are certainly top-of-mind. This collection is all about femininity and being fresh. Michael Kors: Michael Kors' Spring/Summer 2014 collection ditches the beaches look all together, and tries something new. He took a trip to Palm Springs and visited Bob Hope's former residence where he was inspired by the desert sun, the red sand and the atmosphere of this historic Annenberg estate. The Safari feel is evident with the color palette of sand, sun and animals.
