Bollywood superstar, Salman Khan, was sentenced to 5 years in prison for poaching endangered black buck deer. The actor was convicted on Thursday, April 5th, in an incident he committed almost two decades ago.

Khan was said to be filming a movie at the time in Rajasthan, a northern state in India. Over the years the poaching accusations had resurfaced but the actor had been acquitted and was freed on bail.

This was not the first the 52 year old actor has been accused of breaking the law. In 2015, Khan faced charges on a hit and run accident but a higher court dismissed the case as a result of insufficient evidence.

Khan is said to appeal the poaching verdict to higher court.
