Royal Wedding Recap: The Dress, The Guests, The Couple

2496
So yes, I woke up at 5:30 AM, poured myself a cup of tea and got a scone from the Starbucks down the road and settled in, to watch live coverage of The Royal Wedding. I honestly have no regrets, as I watch guests pour into St. George's Chapel in the infamous traditionally British fastener style hats commonly worn to weddings; a crucial part of British weddings. Honestly there's going to be a whole other post just for the amazing hats. There is definitely a lot in this special day to unpack, so lets get to it! Amongst the first celebrity guests that I've watched arrive at the Chapel include;  James Cordon, Lady Kitty Spencer (Princess Diana's niece, for those of you not in the know) and of course the Beckham's as well as Elton John, the Clooney's and Oprah! Also the throngs of people outside the chapel in their Union Jacket themed attire, is deeply contrasting the posh and high fashion styles of the wedding attendees. Many of Meghan Markle's closest friends including Priyanka Chopra and Serena Williams are in attendance as well. Lots of pops of yellows, navy and blush tones in the wedding guests attire, a major wedding guest trend?

A few Suit's costars have been spotted arriving as well; Patrick J Adams with his wife Troian Belliasario. Interestingly Sarah Ferguson, The Duchess of York who was not invited William and Kate's wedding, has been seen arriving at the Chapel! Prince Harry is very close to her daughters, Beatrice and Eugenie. Prince Harry and Prince William arrive up the "long walk" as its called, together waving to the crowds. Both suited and booted in traditional military uniforms. Prince Harry was a member of the military for 10 years and gained special permission from The Queen to wear them.

The Queen arrived wearing a lime green and purple ensemble, The Duchess of Cambridge wore a lovely cream outfit whilst escorting the page boys and flower girls up the steps.

And the bride is here! pulling up the chapel in one of The Queen's very own cars. Meghan Markle (The Duchess of Sussex btw, incase you didn't hear) chose to wear her hair in an updo with The Queen Mary Diamond Bandeau tiara, makeup wise she went minimal, light and fresh. As for the dress.. well of course the bride wore white, Givenchy! The dress itself had a open bateau neckline, three quarter sleeves and with a long train. The veil was significant, representing the individual flora of each Commonwealth country, made of silk and organza.  I honestly expected a much more dramatic look but she looked stunning in her clean white look.

Prince Charles, as previously reported did walk Meghan down the aisle. Unlike American weddings, English bride and grooms say "I will" rather than "I do". The bishop, delivering the message was American and his delivery was unique for a Royal Wedding, he was casual, impactful and had undertones of humour in his message. Definitely shook up the upper crust of British society; there was laughter at appropriate times throughout his delivery. Prince Harry and Meghan could not stop smiling, laughing and making eye contact throughout the ceremony. Following this Stand By Me was sung by a stunningly dressed Gospel Choir!

After the ceremony there was some speculation about where exactly the big kiss would take place as there is no balcony at the wedding location for the traditional balcony kiss. This turned out to surprisingly happened at the top of the steps of St. George's Chapel steps! prior to the Royal Couple making the grand exit in the carriage, with the Gospel Choir singing as the crowds waved.

Overall this Royal Wedding was extremely different from Prince William and Kate's; it was far more casual I mean as casual as a British Royal Family wedding could be. The blend of Meghan Markle's own wedding traditions from the States that are unique to African American culture and that of The Royal Family's blended surprisingly seamlessly. Live coverage commentators and tweeters are all surprised at the break in Royal wedding tradition! The crowd was quite relaxed and good humoured as were the couple themselves. The entire live coverage lasted from about 5:00 AM here in Toronto until about 10:00 AM, needless to say I am exhausted and I hope the newly anointed Duke and Duchess of Sussex live happily ever after.!
