Super Bowl 2017: A Recap

1674
This year’s Super Bowl 51 was an entertaining mix of sports, entertainment, and history being made. Tom Brady and his New England Patriots came from behind to win the game 35-28 over the Atlanta Falcons. This historic comeback would make Brady the first NFL player to win 5 rings (2017, 2015, 2005, 2004 & 2002). Lady Gaga also performed at the Pepsi Zero Sugar Halftime Show, and reminded America and the rest of the world why she is still one of the best in the business. Gaga began by singing God Bless America on the rooftop of the stadium, followed by the Edge of Glory, then Poker Face, Born This Way, Telephone, Just Dance, Million Reasons, and finally, Bad Romance. While the game and the performance were spectacular, so were some of the ads that were being aired during the breaks. Coke’s ad had America the Beautiful sang in multiple languages, and Airbnb created an ad with the phrase “We believe no matter who you are, where you’re from, who you love or who you worship, we all belong. The world is more beautiful the more you accept.” In light of America’s current political landscape, messages of inclusion and acceptance were definitely being emphasized. By Rhea Braganza
